i'm.feeling.duped.too.oprah

Finally!

I'm done with A Million Little Pieces by James Frey. I must say, it took me a while to finish reading it.

A couple of months ago everyone was talking about it; making this book an unforgettable celebrity. Especially Oprah who fell in love with this memoir. Hmmm.

Oprah Oprah Oprah. I thought you had good tastes in books. This was too painful to read. This read wasn't addictive at all.

About the book, I wasn't in love with it, but then again I didn't hate it either. My feelings were neutral. The memoir was too contemporarily written. I'm not sure I liked that. It's just that whenever I picked up that book I couldn't finish reading it. It doesn't happen to me that often. lol. Not that indulging.

The details, especially when James Frey visited the dentist, was too painful for me! Horrible! A drug addict and an alcoholic getting a new set of teeth and a couple of fillings without any anesthetic to "numb up" was just HORRIBLE . Grrrrrr.

And now I heard James Frey is guilty for embellishment and fabricating some details in his memoir?! That's just shocking to me.

Not sure what truth to believe in his memoir- feeling the drilling in his teeth, the secret meet up with Lilly, or a criminal friend called Leonard.

Pathetic? You tell me.

I'm just mad that my rollercoastered emotions during the whole read was gone to waste.

I've been robbed. And no. No embellishment involved here.

R.I.P.

I knowwwwww...

It seems that I was abandoning my beloved blog. Weren't I?

It's just that I am beginning to lose hope. I'm not sure if this blog has an audience. If there are people reading, show some support. I just love it when I see a comment!! It makes my day believe it or not. ;c)

Anyways, I'm all alone at work. An hour ago I have received news from Mom that Shaikh Jaber Al Sabah has passed away (Don't my co-workers love holidays! Heeh). May he rest in peace. I smsed my beloved Kuwaiti friends (Allah i9abirkom inshallah) and they're a bit devastated even though they felt it coming.

Three days ago, while my family and I were camping, we heard the terrible news. The son of our King died in a tragic accident just 5 minutes away from our camping place. He was young; he was truely loved at school, as I heard it from my little sister. He has lived 14 years doing a lot for the mentaly challenged. Yet he would not graduate from HS. He would not get married. He would not even give back to the community.

Guys, please drive safely. Reckless driving will not get you anywhere.

the.omani.witch

Which witch is which?! Which witch is which?! Which witch is witch?!

A week ago I was sitting at my Grandma's kitchen table with the aunts and cousins. We were conversing, gossiping, etc etc. I don't know how we landed talking about witches and crafts, and all that. But we just did. Mimi (Remember her? The chubby lady who had that unimaginable fall? hehehe) told a story about her friend's friend (call him UAEboy). It is 100% genuinely true and it's not an urban legend or anything.

Believe me you.
It is all true.
Spooookyooo.
Rabbadabbadooo.

And I'll be telling the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. So help me God! Heeh.

If you're up for a freaky story, then continue reading. If not, and you're afraid it'll cause you cramps, then hold your horses! I won't be responsible for any traumatic events. I repeat. I.will.not.be.responsible. Capiche? ;c)

Not long ago, UAEboy was an undergraduate studying in Sheeka Beeka (that's what I call the States). He used to have an Omani friend. Every day, the Omani knocks on UAEboy's door. And every day UAEboy opens the door to see the Omani standing there with a warm "7alwa" in his hand. the "7alwa" seemed not made long ago --it was probably an hour old. UAEboy was puzzled. How could this Omani guy get his hands on a warm, fresh "7alwa" in a place that is stranded of any khaleeji or arabic dishes for that matter?

Hmmmmm.

His curiousity made him ask the Omani bluntly.

The Omani loved to show him how he got the "7alwa", but he made him promise not to tell a soul about his secret.

Hmmmmm.

So it was time. The Omani guy woke UAEboy up before sunrise. He took him to a sea shore near their town. It was dark. The sun has still not risen. He commanded him to lye down on his back and close his eyes. He obediently did what he's been told --they both did. Their feet were at the tip of the water. UAEboy heard the Omani murmur what he believed was a witchcraft. One minute, he felt himself shiver like he was put in a freezer. The next minute he suddenly found himself lying on the Omani's bed, in the Omani's house, in Oman. He was scared shitless!

"Now you know where I get the fresh 7alwa from", said the Omani.

UAEboy wasn't believing what his naked eyes saw. He was silent for the whole trip.

The story doesn't stop here.

The Omani introduced him to the household. He showed his way to a very dark room. And inside the room there was an old dark man. When he came nearer, he saw the old man with long braided hair, sitting alone in a chair.

"Shit, what made me come here?! I should have never been that curious", thought UAEboy.

"I know what you're thinking, boy. You should be curious, because that's what made you come here", the old man utterly replied.

Gulp.. If I were in UAEboy's shoes I would kill myself.

Just before lunch time, Omani's sister came in carrying the tea. When UAEboy saw her he didn't believe his eyes. He saw a beautiful fair girl standing right beside him. Poor guy, he didn't know that the old man had cursed him.

It was lunch time then. Whenever UAEboy looked at his dish, all he could see was that magical beautiful girl. She always pops on his plate. He couldn't even eat.

After they're done, UAEboy said his goodbyes and headed back with Omani guy to travel again. So they laid on the bed and the Omani started murmuring. UAEboy felt the chill and then found himself on the shore, in the States again.

Damn. The girl keeps popping in his mind, in his dishes, in his apartment. He keeps visualizing her everywhere.

A day after, he confessed to Omani guy. He knew his old man cursed his friend.

So he handed him her picture to look at. All UAEboy saw was an ugly duckling; so ugly he couldn't lay his eyes on the picture. He asked who she was.

"That's the beautiful girl that you were confessing your love to", Omani guy said.

Hehehe. Poor UAEboy.

After Mimi was done, we all had the wide eyes open mouth expression on our faces.

The one thing that stuck to my mind is that it's a cheap way to travel. No buying tickets involved. Heeh!

a.little.bit.of.cleavage

I'm looking outside my office window and all I see is an angry cloudy sky and a glimpse of the ocean. These two of God's creation match in color today. A streak line that separates the ocean from the sky is hardly recognizable. And I can feel the chill and the wind through people's self-caress and long swift strides. Uh oh I am in love already with this sensation. I wish I can ditch work.. but I couldn't.

So a little bit of revealing for 10 minutes during my lunch break is all I could do. 'Cause I feel like rrranting..

So here goes. Ahmmm..

It hasn't been a year since I got my current job; the only job I have had so far. To tell you the truth I expected more. I expected a delightful atmosphere and a breath taking salary that makes someone drooool.

But only because I lost hope after six months of searching and distributing resumes around every consultancy in town, I humbly accepted it. I ended up here as my last reserve, in the Ministry, with people who think they knew too much and so little did they know.

As of now I am classified as a "trainee", I must go through a year of "training" in their "training pool". I must be circulated from one department to another given that I shall fulfill the practice that they want. A pleasing person that I am, I replied with an "ai ai sir".

I'm not denying that I loved the first couple of months. It was self-absorbing and beneficial and successful yet complicated and tiring. It's never too bad to have such a sweet adorable boss who's been in this business for 30 years. I got to project-manage a lot with him. I remember the tideous meetings we had w/ the consultants for a port infrastructure project. I also remember asking their tea boy for a cuppaccino, but he shyly confessed about not having a clue of what that is. So I surrendered to his regular black coffee. I must confess it was quite good.

I just loved the load and the pressure but mostly the pleasure of meeting those interesting people at the Ministry. I can't wait to be returning to them at the end of 2006 for good! Yeehaa!

After that I encountered two months of hell in Supervision. You don't want to know who I supervised or do you? ;p

Ok.

Workers. I supervised workers.. at a site.. in a middle of a village. I despised it. But mostly I despised the mixed smell of chopped onion and chili and perspired sweat that were stamped onto every single mason. I nearly became blind you know.. (What did i get myself into?)
I tried to hibernate in the portacabon to avoid the smell as much as possible.

Right now, I am stuck with an abnoxious, self-loving architect. I've seen some creative architects. But him, he's something else. His creativity is ancient and rusty. Blocks blocks blocks rearranged in some manner is what I see in his designs.

hehe. architect my lovely ass....

dig.that.groove.baby

I posted a sample of my friend's music. I think he is a pro. He thinks otherwise. He thinks I'm too nice to critique. But I love his music and that's that.
so guys you be the judge of that. If you like the kind of music that makes you in a jump-up-and down-and-move-all-around mood, play that "Funky Dunky" music!

gone.camping

It's all about camping these days. Although the weather is not that cold. It's quite pleasant might I add! ;c)

Anyway, so Saturday was camping day. I took this oppurtunity as a meditation time for "moi". It would've been me, the infinite desert, the sparkling sky, and a bonfire. It would've been simply amazing.

Well, until the kids' screeching attracted me. Ukhhh. lol.

Despite that, the night started with dad and uncle #1 BBQing seafood and some steaks for those who are fans of neither shrimps nor crabs. I wonder why do guys love shrimps that much! Heeh!

Everyone was having a blast; from my adorable 2 year old cousin Jana to my sister Sara who was and still is walking with crutches (Apparantly soccer did not suit her. Poor old thing!)

Alas, the night ended with some music and lots of dancing!

Hip hip hooray for my twin sis who succeeded in her first ever Salsa dancing with uncle #3.

*Happy National Day*

the.unimaginable.fall

Going out with Chubby Mimi is fun.

She could be funny and flirtatious at times, and clumsy and gawky at other.

She was in the latter mood the last time we went out. Oh! How I wished she wasn't; now that I think about her unimaginable fall, I simply cannot stop laughing! I have a habit you know - laughing considerably! =P

But that night was something... Mimi kept nagging to try this new hip restuarant (as chubby as she is) in town. At least her nagging got her somewhere. So myself, along with my twin sister, looked our best and joined the bunch.

You should know that Mimi has always been a leader - our leader at least (I bet her hubby/my uncle IS the one at home).

She as any other leader, wanted to set an example; so she walked in before us and took several steps until she reached the tip of the tread. Excitingly she asked the waiter, "a table for fouu.....", and for a sudden all I could see was a chubby, fluffy creature tripping, landing on her bumbum and rolling over like a bowling ball. ALL in sloooooow motion.

it was silent for a sec, but I surely felt the staring eyes and the giggles echoing around us.

We, being the "followers", should've been supportive of our "leader" and help her get up.
Instead, one stood there embarrassed and another fled away. I on the other hand chuckled and cackled and chuckled and cackled (yes i know! shame on me!)

Poor old Mimi got up all alone and walked to our table as if nothing happened. Never giving up her supremacy! Heeh!

She's a sport alright!!

the.10'.by.10'.by.30'.cubicle

There are two tiiny elevators in the building where I work at. Around 500 people who work there use them. So what happens when the clock strikes 2:15pm and let's say 400 of us are anxiously waiting to get in, get out, and head on home?

You are about to witness a stampede to be squeeeeezed in the two tiny cubicles.

Luckily I am always one of the first to step in since I'm on the highest floor -the elevators tend to stop there first.

Trying to glue myself in the back corner of the dark gloomy elevator (being invisible for just this 1 minute ride) I cross my fingers and pray to God not to be sandwiched between the fat old man with the breath of a dead mouse and the itchy pregnant lady with a huge appetite of whatever it is.

... 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, G...

Chaching! Finally the metal door slides open...

Welcome heaven!!

I live through that every week day. lol. ;c)

the.newly.weds

Yup.
I am officially a blogger!

Since I'm crippled from head-to-toe and cannot get up from my bed due to last night's pumpin' on my aunt's wedding dance floor, I decided to give blogging a shot.

It's fun to read posts, but I'm sure it'll need a lot of guts from me and a lot of nagging from you guys to keep my "new friend" runnin'.

So my fellow peeps say hi to the girl next door ;P

P.S. Congratz to my wonderful aunt who some how made me start this ;c)
